The Olsens hope to breathe life into old store

Olalla's beloved Al's Butcher Shop and Grocery is being passed to the hands of a new owner - a prominent Olalla resident who plans to turn it into a community gathering place while restoring many of its historic features.

The market closed in 2020, shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began. Olalla resident and author Gregg Olsen was one of many in the community sad to see the store go. After a conversation with one of the store's former employees, he and his wife, Claudia, decided they should buy it.

"This is our hang-out spot,” he said of the market on the shore of the Puget Sound. Read the full story here.
